Regina A. (Jachimiak) Korba

Regina A. (Jachimiak) Korba was called into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 1. Born in Wilkes-Barre on January 5, 1930, Regina was the daughter of the late Alexander Jachimiak and Anna Laskowski-Jachimiak.

Regina was a devoted wife, a caring mother, a proud grandmother and great grandmother, a loving sister, aunt and cousin and a dear friend to many.

A graduate of GAR High School, Regina was employed as a seamstress at Coronet Fashions for many years. She also was a typist at Royal Insurance and a transcriptionist at Children’s Service Center where she worked until she retired at age 78 to care for her late husband and love of her life, Harry.

Regina was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, the Mothers’ Guild of St. Aloysius School and the Parents’ Club at Bishop Hoban High School. After the death of her husband Harry in 2009, Regina became active in the Altar and Rosary Society and Senior Citizens Club at St. Aloysius/St Robert Bellarmine Parish, Wilkes-Barre. She volunteered at the parish bazaar and other church fundraising events. She was also active in the St. Mary’s Friendship Club and Trinity Club in Plymouth and with the crochet club at Our Lady of Hope Parish in Wilkes Barre.

In addition to spending time with her family, Regina enjoyed being involved in various social gatherings with a special group of lady friends. The weekly breakfasts, ice cream gatherings, bingo clubs, and trips to the casinos gave her much enjoyment. Regina had a special love for cardinals as they reminded her of her beloved Harry who she missed dearly after his passing. Regina’s faith was integral in her life and she demonstrated that to all who knew and loved her on a daily basis.

Regina was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Harry Korba, Jr; brothers, Alexander (Olish) Jachimiak and Ralph Jachimiak; and sister, Theresa Jachimiak.

Regina is survived by three daughters: Karen Yakabosky and her husband, Ed, Mohnton; Sr. Donna Korba, I.H.M., Scranton; and Paula Polachek and her husband, Jay, Hanover Township; grandchildren: Christen Yakabosky Kamin and her husband, Marc, Blue Bell; Edward Yakabosky and his companion, Kathryn, LaQuinta, California;  Marissa Polachek, New Yok, New York; and Kelsey Polachek Nicholson and her husband, Eric, Plains; great granddaughters: Livia and Maya Kamin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Regina’s family expresses their overwhelming gratitude to Dr. Patrick Kerrigan, D.O. and the nurses/staff at Erwine Home Health & Hospice, especially Joyce, Susan and Julena for their care and compassion during Regina’s journey.
